Green screen video production

How is this possible? A green screen-it's not just for Hollywood any more. Why? Because there's virtually no limit to what you can do. Of course, the real work begins once the filming is done as that's when everything is created.

Green Screen Video Production Services - how it works

As a Seattle Washington video production company that works with companies throughout the entire United States, we specialize in green screen production and thought you should know how it works.

It all starts by filming a professional actor(s) in front of a green screen-just like they do in the movies. We're sure you've all seen clips of movies being made involving a green screen and while Hollywood's green screens are sometimes bigger than ours, the concept is the same. During filming, the actor is not just standing in place saying his or her lines. Since we will be removing the green screen and replacing it with something else, the actor may be interacting with things that aren't there. For example, while filming a movie, an actor has to react to a monster that isn't there yet as it is computer-generated and will be added later. We'll talk more about how this works later.

Once the filming is complete, we move on to post-production and this is where all the magic happens and the hard work begins. A special software program allows us to remove the green screen so all we have left is the actor(s). We are quite literally left with a blank slate and are only limited by our imagination (and realistically-your budget).

Virtual sets

With our blank slate ready, the actors need to be placed in an environment (or setting) and that's where a virtual set comes into play. A virtual set is exactly as it sounds-it's a computer-generated 3D setting, such as an office, library or hospital. We can use a virtual set that has already been created or build a new custom-made set with one of our 3D programs. If we use a virtual set that's already created, we can change some elements, like adding your company logo and switching colors so we end up with a semi-custom look for your project.

A custom virtual set can be simple or extremely complex, depending on your video project. A basic set may contain a large 3D version of your company's logo on a stage while an elaborate set can be a multi-room office building and there's an almost infinite number of possibilities in the middle of the 2. Our point is that the perfect setting can be fabricated for your project.

If you're thinking this sounds complicated and time consuming, you're right. This is where being a geek comes in handy and only video professionals experienced in green screen filming can deliver a high quality finished video.

Pro talent makes all the difference

You would probably be surprised if you knew how many TV commercials are filmed on a green screen with 1 actor and nothing else. While you see many other elements in the finished commercial, the actor was filmed separately interacting with things that weren't really there. We can do the same thing here and this is where working with pro talent is beneficial as they have experience with this.

We can really have some fun as the talent can point to a specific spot or snap their fingers and graphics can appear. They can pretend to be using a touch screen on a tablet or manipulating a giant screen in front of them to show the audience important information (which will be added in post-production). With motion graphics, the talent can 'pretend' to hit a button for a monitor to rise up from the floor and when finished, a simple tap on the top of the monitor can have it lower.

Planning is crucial

As you can see, there's an endless amount of things which can be done though everything needs to be planned before filming. Only a professional green screen production crew can plan out the talent's every movement and plot the exact actions he or she needs to follow so that everything matches when the graphics and virtual sets are added in post production. In addition, the camera's movements and lighting still needs to be done right for a polished finished product.

This is why it's crucial to work with a company experienced in green screen production. While the finished video makes everything look effortless, IT IS NOT. Behind every commercial or movie, there is a crew that spends hours planning the entire production and when they have done their job correctly, it all comes together in a finished video that looks perfect.
