Pre-Production

Before we even think about any shooting, we complete all pre-production work. Pre-production includes many elements, from story boarding to script writing to meetings where the entire production is planned.

Even when you know the message of the finished video, there is much planning to do to make the process go smoothly. If you aren't sure of the intent or message of the video, then there's even more work to do.

Planning meeting

No matter the length of your finished video, things will go much smoother with a planning meeting.

If you only have a rough idea of the message, a brainstorming meeting can generate ideas as to how that message is best delivered.

Script Writing

Once you have decided on the message for the video, a script needs to be written. Even if your video is only 30 seconds, a script is necessary and cannot be skipped.

Sleepy Dog can provide script writing services or you're welcome to provide your own script.

Story boarding

Once you have your concept for the video, a storyboard is made to plan out all the shots needed for the video.

Storyboards are the visual script of the video where the camera shots are planned out to make sure no shots are missed and filming can be done in the most efficient way possible.

Filming Schedule

Whether it's a half day or 3 days of filming, a schedule is needed to make the most productive use of shooting time.

An order for shooting will be established so the actors and locations can be ready when needed and movement of the lighting/audio equipment can be kept to a minimum.

Production/Shooting

Sleepy Dog Media Group is a full service Seattle video production company. To keep things simple, our day rate for filming includes professional audio and lighting, portable green screen and all the equipment necessary to do the job right.

Keep in mind the more equipment we bring; the longer set-up and tear-down will take. View more about rates and packages on our Seattle video production packages page.

On-location filming

Movie CameraThis is the fun part for you - time to be a star. Sleepy Dog Media Group films on location and this is where our day rates apply. Our crew will bring the necessary equipment (camera, lights, audio, etc.) to shoot all the footage needed for your video project.

It usually takes from 1-2 hours to set up all the equipment for your video shoot.

Depending on your project, we may be using a green screen, track & dolly system or maybe even our 12' Kessler Crane.

Talent/Voice Over

ActressSince not all business owners are excited to be in their own video, Sleepy Dog has a pool of local professional talent ready to star in your video production.

Actors in a range of ages and ethnicities are available to ensure the degree of professionalism your video production deserves.

Voice Over

This isn't usually done on the day of the shoot, but is part of the production.

Sleepy Dog uses professional actors for voice over work. Depending on the intended audience, the voice used in your video project can reflect professionalism and trustworthiness or high energy and fun.

Hi-Def Cameras

High Definition CamerasNo video shoot would work without great cameras. We offer on location shoots up to three cameras. The number will vary depending on the video. For an example, a testimonial will be one camera angle whereas a class could show multiple angles.

On Location Lighting

Lighting GearProbably the most important part of how a video looks is the lighting. We use a variety of lighting equipment from soft boxes to ultra bright floods.

Audio

Audio GearHigh quality shotgun microphones are used during filming for the best sound with audio checks done frequently to guarantee quality.

12 Foot Kessler Crane

12 Foot CraneHow do we achieve the beautiful floating shots? With a 12 foot crane of course. Perfect for overviews of a store or manufacturing facility, there is no extra charge if we utilize our crane during filming.

Track and dolly

Track and Dolly SystemOur track and dolly system allows for a fluid camera movement from one area to another, such as following someone while they are walking.

Portable green screen

Filming on a green screen allows for the green background to be removed and anything can be put in its place. It could be as simple as a gradient background or as complex as a custom virtual set. For more information about this technology, see our Seattle green screen page.

Post Production

Post ProductionThis is where the real magic happens. We fire up the computers and bring your vision to life.

Post production is divided into 2 categories with brief explanations of the differences over to the right. For more in depth explanations, each type of post production has it's own information panel

Post-production Level A

Video Post Productionincludes highly skilled, intensive work, such as editing, designing graphics, titles, sound sweetening, voice over, special effects, virtual set creation and 3D logo creation.

This is where creativity and experience can make the difference between a mediocre video and an amazing production. We have an extensive library of graphics, images, video and music along with state-of-the-art software to create the video of your dreams.

Post-production Level B

Video Post Production Renderingincludes less intensive work such as video rendering, web compression and uploading to streaming video servers.

These are all necessary steps in preparing your video for the web and must be completed properly for your video to look and sound great.

Video Editing Software

Post Production Level A

Editing

The heart of post-production is the editing process. Editing covers many things, such as looking through all the footage and selecting the best clips needed for the project.

If multiple angles were filmed, precision is needed to cut from one angle to another to show the best shot.

Titles & Graphics

TitlingSimple to complex, proper titles can greatly enhance the impact and comprehension of your video.

From lower thirds to intricate animated backgrounds, custom and stock graphics may be used to further enhance your video's message.

Sound Sweetening, Music and Sound Effects

Sound sweetening is a term used to make the audio sound better, such as giving a person's voice a lift (sometimes called depth) so it doesn't sound flat.

Of course, no production is complete without some music and sound effects as well. We have massive libraries of each.

Special Effects

Special FX Special effects cover many things, from fire to water splashing and can be used to bring a dynamic element to your video production.

Our vast library of special effects includes almost everything you could imagine (and probably some you didn't).

Virtual Set Creation

Virtual Set CreationSo, what exactly do we mean by a virtual set? A virtual set isn't real, it's created on screen and used for the background of your video.

We film actors in a green screen studio and then replace the green background with a virtual set. It could be a simple background to an entire world.

3D Logo Creation/Animation

3D AnimationThis is exactly what it sounds like-creating a 3D version of your logo that can be used in the opening of your video or as the centerpiece in a custom virtual set.

Post Production Level B

Rendering

ImageOnce a video is edited and ready, the process is called rendering. The computer starts generating each frame of the video.

This can be really fast - taking just a few minutes or it could be hours. Extremely complex videos and particularly those with 3D animation can take hours (or even days) to render.

Video Compression

ImageOnce the video is rendered, the next step is to get it ready for broadcasting on the web. The original video file will be much too large to stream on the web so the files are compressed.

Hence the term video compression. The result is a video that downloads/streams quickly with almost no loss of original quality.

Web Upload

After your video is compressed, it is uploaded to the web for streaming on your website. Sleepy Dog Media can host your video or you may host it yourself.
